Integrating Nutrition Education into School Curriculum: BGN Advocates

The National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for the integration of nutrition education into the national school curriculum to create a healthier, smarter, and globally competitive generation of Indonesians. According to Ikeu Tanziha from BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, incorporating structured nutrition education into schools at an early age is essential in promoting a comprehensive understanding of nutrition. This initiative aims to help children develop a healthy lifestyle, critical thinking skills, and contribute positively to the nation’s growth.

The proposed curriculum includes topics such as basic nutrition concepts, food group classification, the role of nutrients in the body, and the consequences of poor eating habits. By educating students about nutrition, the program also aims to increase awareness of the benefits of a balanced diet, prevent obesity and diabetes, and empower students to make informed dietary choices. Practical skills like cooking and gardening will be included to help students apply their knowledge in real-life situations.

Integrating nutrition education into schools is expected to create a collaborative effort between schools, families, and communities in promoting balanced nutrition. This holistic approach is crucial in shaping a healthier future for the country. As part of the movement towards Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045, BGN is calling on various stakeholders to support the initiative. By combining the Free Nutritious Meals Program with comprehensive nutrition education, BGN aims to maximize the impact of their efforts and improve the overall quality of life for all Indonesians.
