Prabowo Experiences Tough Talks with Trump Over Tariffs, Reaches Agreement

President Prabowo Subianto recently shared that he had engaged in direct discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump pertaining to trade tariffs. The negotiations, although challenging, were ultimately successful. Speaking at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta, Prabowo expressed gratitude for reaching an agreement with President Trump. Both parties demonstrated an understanding of each other’s national interests during the talks, leading to the United States agreeing to reduce import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. This reduction was achieved through careful calculations and strong advocacy by the Indonesian government to safeguard the interests of the public and domestic workers. Prabowo highlighted the importance of protecting Indonesian workers throughout the negotiation process and emphasized that the country took a firm stance to ensure their security. Additionally, he expressed optimism about Indonesia’s economic resilience in the face of global uncertainties. Plans for a potential visit to the United States later in the year, with a meeting with President Trump in September or October, were also discussed. Despite the serious nature of the discussions, Prabowo humorously mentioned feeling nervous about a possible invitation from Trump to play golf during the visit.
